A young man asked me to come with him. He beckoned me in the direction of a cafe. It was crammed full of people. Everyone spontaneously started shouting, “Hey, Hapon (Japanese guy), Ireland.” I was amazed. They went on to say, “Mongolia, TV, NHK . . .”, gesturing that something had been broadcast earlier. It seems that I had appeared on TV the previous day. When I thought about it, I recalled how there had seemed to be something different about the people I had pedalled passed, the drivers and pedestrians. Perhaps that was just my imagination, but I had definitely been on the TV. (from "Against the Wind" - Poolbeg Press)
