
I could see
a very large sign in the distance, at the very top of a hill.
Cycling closer I saw that it was a 5-metre high sign, sitting on
a solid foundation more than 2 metres high, supported by
several metal posts.
‘EUROPE’
Going around to the other side, it said
‘ASIA’
This, then, was the border between Asia and Europe.
Running right across the foundation, as if on a map, there
was a thick red borderline. Placing one foot either side of the
red line, I was a man literally bridging Asia and Europe. It
