As long as there were people like this nearby, and given that there was limited sleeping space inside the ger, I decided I would pitch my tent there. This was probably the first time in their lives they had seen a tent. Everyone’s eyes opened wide with delight and they started chattering to each other excitedly. Batsaihan helped hit in the pegs with a hatchet. When it was up, Bahtimpkh and Tsagan went into the tent and started tumbling around. The next moment they were out and using the tent as a trampoline! (I urged them to be careful not to break the poles. . .) Thus we had a Mongol tent and a western tent next to each other, looking quite the thing. (from "Against the Wind" - Poolbeg Press)
