Cycling down a gentle hill about 15 kilometres from Greystones, a young cyclist wearing jazzy cycling gear came up alongside me and called out, ‘“Yaz! I’ve been waiting two years for you to come this way!” It seems that the Gerry Ryan Show had been on every morning where Richard worked, and they had to listen to it, even when they didn’t want to. As a fellow cyclist, he had taken a keen interest in me from the first time I had appeared on the Gerry Ryan Show. He knew I was passing that day and that I was heading for Greystones that night, so had taken time off work. Greystones was a long way from where he lived, which meant a long round trip, but he didn’t care about the distance. He wanted to guide me to my destination hotel. He was a great guy.
