We were now too excited to take in anything. Moscow gradually engulfed us. The buildings were taller than any I had seen in Russia, and pressed in on all sides. The number of cars, the speed of vehicles, and driver insanity were all of a distinctly higher order. We were sucked into the centre of the great metropolitan whirlpool, that famous landmark Red Square. We climbed numerous hills, crossed many bridges, waited at many lights and then I was sitting in the saddle in front of Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square, under a blue sky, smiling. I had pedalled 8,600 kilometres from Osaka. (from "Against the Wind" - Poolbeg Press)
